First thing’s first: do you know what essential oils are? Often abbreviated as “EO’s,” essential oils come from plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. They are the essence of the plant and contain the plant’s hormones, neurotransmitters, and growth factors - some pretty powerful stuff!
Essential oils can be inhaled, diffused into the air, or applied topically. Since your sense of smell is one of the most direct connections to the brain, inhaling essential oils leads to a natural but rapid response. If you choose to apply them topically, know that they should be blended with another oil or water-based mixture so you don’t irritate the skin. Essential oil molecules are small enough that they can pass through the pores and enter the body in this way as well.
So, why use essential oils? They have the ability to help with a variety of ailments, including fatigue, headache, mood, and anxiety. They can even help with your workout and give you that extra boost and a spring in your step! There are two essential oils in particular that can provide a natural workout boost, and they both fall within the same category: citrus! The citrus family includes grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime, all of which are central nervous system stimulants. They up-regulate, activate, and energize your brain.
Essential oil #1: Grapefruit. While this citrus plant wasn’t widely known in the US until the 20th century, today there are at least 10 different varieties of grapefruit. It’s essential oil is prepared from its flowers and its potent, fresh aroma has the power to really energize your senses before a workout!
Essential oil #2: Lime. If you’re only using lime to add some tanginess to your culinary creations, you’re missing out! Lime has important health and energy-boosting properties and can be combined with grapefruit for a wonderful combination to stimulate your mind and give your workout a boost!
How to use them? You can use a towelette, wipe, tissue, gauze add a few drops of the energizing oils - we even have an Energy Towelette that’s already infused with these exact essential oils to kick exhaustion to the curb.
